Faced with an unprecedented climate crisis and increasing environmental degradation, the mining sector must reconcile economic growth with ecological demands. Historically perceived as one of the most damaging industries, it is evolving towards more sustainable practices. This transition aims to balance economic interests with social justice and environmental conservation, thereby enhancing the resilience of local communities and the sustainability of ecosystems. This literature review adopts a narrative approach to synthesize current knowledge on sustainable development in the mining sector, emphasizing the importance of a holistic integration of sustainability that includes social and environmental dimensions. It identifies technological innovation and ecological rehabilitation as essential pillars, while highlighting the crucial role of governance strategies and social equity to ensure a fair distribution of benefits and improve the living conditions of local communities. In conclusion, this review proposes a multidisciplinary conceptualization of sustainable mining development, stressing the need for integrated management policies and responsible practices to address current challenges.Downloads
