Abstract

This article provides an in-depth analysis of the theoretical context of Green Supply Chain Management Practices (GSCMP). It draws on the main conceptual frameworks and theories developed in the literature to examine the mechanisms through which sustainable practices can be integrated into logistics processes and supply chain management systems. Through a critical review of existing studies, the paper highlights the different academic and managerial perspectives explaining the adoption of GSCMP by firms, while identifying the main conceptual and empirical gaps and limitations in the literature. The analysis also assesses the evolution of green practices across various organizational and economic contexts, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition toward more sustainable supply chains, particularly in terms of performance, long-term cost reduction, and access to new markets. Finally, this paper aims to shed light on the factors that facilitate or hinder the adoption of GSCMP in an environment characterized by increasing societal and economic pressures, and to propose strategic orientations that may help firms sustainably enhance their competitiveness while addressing contemporary environmental and social challenges.
